Bad weather: orange alert in Lombardy and Friuli Venezia Giulia – Last minute

The large depression structure, centered on the Bay of Biscay and slowly approaching the Mediterranean sectors, will continue to determine bad weather conditions in a large part of the northern regions of the country, in particular in the eastern Alpine and pre-Alpine areas, with widespread and locally persistent rainfall. Based on the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved – which is responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned – has issued a new warning of adverse weather conditions which extends the previous warning issued.

The warning predicts widespread and locally persistent rainfall, including showers or thunderstorms, from late afternoon today, Wednesday 15 May, in the autonomous province of Trento, extending to Friuli Venezia Giulia. Scattered to widespread precipitation, including showers or thunderstorms, will persist across Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. The rains will be more abundant in the Alpine and pre-Alpine sectors and the phenomena will be accompanied by heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, local hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. On the basis of the expected and ongoing phenomena, an orange alert has been assessed for tomorrow, Thursday 16 May, in parts of Lombardy and Friuli Venezia Giulia. Furthermore, a yellow alert is expected for Veneto, Trentino Alto Adige, Friuli Venezia Giulia and parts of Lombardy, Piedmont, Tuscany, Emilia-Romagna and Marche.
