Peripheral birth centers, births 4 times more expensive

Saturday 27 April – 12.14pm

The 2022 budget of the Healthcare Company closed substantially in balance, even if the costs for hospital and specialist services provided by private individuals are growing, at +4-5% and also those for healthcare transport, by as much as 21%. . The biggest problem, however, is the health birth centers: in 2022, 132 children were born in Cavalese, for a cost per birth of 20 thousand euros, in Cles 242, at 17,600 euros each. In Trento each birth costs the healthcare system 5,200 euros, 4,823 in Rovereto. In essence, births would be 4 times more expensive in the suburbs. If the Court of Auditors calls for a reorganization, the provincial health councilor Mario Tonina defends together with President Fugatti a choice that is essentially political: that of maintaining the service in the Valleys. However, there is a problem that stands out and needs to be investigated: couples living in peripheral areas often choose to give birth in the city. There they feel safer for the birth, despite some complaints about the hospital stay. It could be a lack of trust: according to Paola Demagri in recent years there has rightly been talk of a safety problem linked to hospitals with fewer births which has guided the choice of future parents and the presence of token operators, who are not truly part of the medical teams , made things worse. It is politics that must act.
