Rho raises awareness against gambling

From 5 to 7 April, with the participation of the police, theatrical show, conference, sports tournaments and many games in the square

Rho – They return from 5 to 7 April Awareness days to combat gambling, increasingly widespread in the area and the origin of numerous problems for adults and children.

The legality department led by Nicola Violante has developed a rich program that will take place over the weekend following Easter, thanks to the collaboration of many entities that are part of the Community Pact against gambling signed on 20 May 2023.

The presence of the police forces who deal with this phenomenon on a daily basis is fundamental: they will be lined up in Piazza San Vittore, paying particular attention to the little ones.

The State Police, under the banner of the slogan “Always be there”, will be present with a gazebo, a jeep on which children can climb to make the siren sound and with their own service vehicles. The Carabinieri will bring drug-sniffing dogs, while the Financial Police will ensure the display of dogs capable of identifying hidden currency and will demonstrate equipment dedicated specifically to combating gambling.

“In Lombardy the latest data, released by Federconsumatori, speak of 24 billion euros gambled in a couple of years – explains councilor Nicola Violante –. Losses in 2022 are around 3.7 billion euros, over the course of a couple of years we are talking about 7 billion. The survey estimates that in Lombardy there are 330 thousand online players, who gamble for an average of 2,340 euros every month. We are very worried but we are trying to implement all possible actions. An ordinance that limits the hours of use of slot machines and video lotteries has been successful. But we know well that the game remains very popular. This new weekend will allow us to offer awareness-raising opportunities. It then offers the opportunity to rediscover how gaming can be a tool for aggregation, how you can have much more fun and in a healthier way with others, not with your gaze fixed on a car or closed in your room”.
