The Facebook page “Precari della scuola di Bolzano” turns 10

On March 30th the Facebook page “Precari della scuola di Bolzano” turns 10. The idea for its creation came to Professor Simona Fermanelli who immediately shared it with her colleagues and closest friends, who had also been employed on temporary contracts for over 10 years (14, 16 or even 20 years) in Italian schools in the rich province of Bolzano and who immediately supported it. Together they decided that it would be a good idea to start raising public awareness about the very serious problem of precarious employment in the school world first on social media and, later, also with press releases in the local and national press and in online magazines dedicated to schools such as Orizzonte School and School Technique. Many initiatives have been undertaken over the years by the teachers who have collaborated with the managers of the page of the Temporary Workers of the Bolzano school, gathered in a Coordination and which, mainly, has seen professors Enrico Palazzi, Ilaria Battistetti and Simona Fermanelli publicly exposed.

Various supports and initiatives which, in these ten years, have also come from political representatives of all sides, in particular from those who sat in opposition in the Provincial Council until October 2023 (such as the Hon. Alessandro Urzì and the councilors Diego Nicolini and Marco Galateo).

Even some national politicians (such as former senator Orietta Vanin of the M5S and senator Bucalo of FdI) have pleaded the cause of the precarious workers of the Bolzano school with parliamentary questions or other laudable initiatives.

Many journalists were interested in the problem.

Today the page of the Temporary Workers of the Bolzano school can boast over 1000 followers and no longer deals only with the precarious employment of teachers, but also with the other problems that afflict the Italian language school such as, for example, the lack of support teachers. Some of the teachers who have come together to seek a winning synergy to solve the problem of teacher precariousness in Bolzano have, in the meantime, entered into roles, but this does not mean that they do not still want to commit themselves, to avoid that other colleagues have to remain precarious for over 10 years, as has happened in the past. The coordination of the precarious workers of the Bolzano school will therefore continue to work until this problem no longer exists and thanks all those who actively collaborated.
