SICILY | Trapani Birgi Airport: modernization works on the runway, airport closed from 25 February to 16 March

Trapani Birgi airport is closed from 25 February to 16 March for modernization works on the runway. The lights will be updated with LED systems, with greater efficiency and lower environmental impact. Airgest, the management company of the “Vincenzo Florio” explains that the flights will be re-protected by the airlines who will communicate more precise details to individual passengers. On Saturday 16 March the airport will reopen at 8am.

(TurismoItaliaNews) The works, planned for some time, concern the replacement and modernization of the luminous visual aids. The runway lights will be updated with LED systems, with greater efficiency, effectiveness and a notable reduction in electricity consumption and therefore with less environmental impact. These interventions are part of a vast program of infrastructural and technological modernization of the Trapani Birgi airport, which began about four years ago and was commissioned by the military air force. At the same time, there will be maintenance work on the runway itself, carried out by Airgest, such as the removal of rubber deposits and the redevelopment of horizontal signs.

“The planning of this closing period – explained the president of Airgest, Savior Shadow – is the result of recent coordination, aimed at identifying the least busy period of the year and therefore absolutely reducing the impact and inconvenience on airlines and passengers. Even the work time, twenty days, was compressed as much as possible with a view to minimizing inconvenience. These are necessary works that will further implement the safety of the ‘Vincenzo Florio’ and prepare us as best we can for the arrival of a great summer season, from next April, in which traffic will explode again”.
