An extraordinary generosity: the national food collection day promoted by the Food Bank was once again a beautiful example of sharing needs.
At a national level, 7,350 tonnes of food products were collected, a truly important result which was also confirmed in Tuscany: in fact, 400 tonnes were collected in the region, 6% more than what was obtained in 2022. smiling faces of the over 10 thousand Tuscan volunteers, the generational exchange, the ability to make the importance of the gesture felt have contributed to making this Collection a wonderful source of hope for the future, despite the ever-increasing difficulties of recent years.
The increase in collection was generalized in the region, with truly notable results in Valdarno as well as in Livorno and Grosseto. Even in the city of Florence there was an increase in collection of 7%.
«We thank all those who joined the Collection – comments Leonardo Berni, president of the Tuscany Food Bank – characterized as never before by a joy and enthusiasm which are the true response to the difficulties of these months. A very important result also from a numerical point of view, with an increase of 6% in the Region, with peaks of 20% in the flooded areas, testifying to the generosity and heart of the people of Tuscany. We are grateful to be able to witness and contribute to this beauty.”
As early as Monday 20 November, the collected products will be distributed in the 540 regional structures affiliated with the Bank to assist more than 122,500 people. The food collection, a gesture with which the Banco Alimentare foundation has joined the World Day of the Poor 2023 announced by Pope Francis, is made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Army and the Air Force (in particular with regard to Tuscany, thanks special goes to the 78th Tuscan Wolf Regiment, the Military Geographical Institute and the Aeronautical Military Sciences Institute), the National Alpini Association, the National Bersaglieri Association, the National Italian Federation of the Society of San Vincenzo De Paoli ODV, the Cdo Opere Sociali and the Lions Club International.
