New Year’s Eve in the Florentine squares, thousands of people in Santa Croce

Thousands of people celebrated New Year’s Eve in the squares of Florence. From Piazza del Carmine to Piazza Santissima Annunziata, passing through Piazza della Signoria until arriving at the heart of the celebrations in Piazza Santa Croce where, awaiting the new year and wishing those present, there was also the mayor Sara Funaro.

Over eight thousand people in Piazza Santa Croce danced and sang for the performances of Tiromancino, Paola Iezzi, Franco126 and the guys from XFactor with Sarafine, Alessandro Tomasi and Layana. Lele Sacchi’s DJ set closed the evening.

“Piazza Santa Croce is beautiful, full of girls and boys, but tidy, where community is created and where people have fun – he said, sending a wish from the stage together with the president of Quartiere 1 Mirco Rufilli and the councilor for Culture Giovanni Bettarini – To all of them, to the young people, I want to say to move forward with determination, chasing your dreams”.

“We are working to provide answers to citizens – the mayor said – and to build a city capable of combining development and protection: carrying forward the tramway and strengthening public transport, strengthening services for people – from social services to educational ones, from cultural offerings to territorial coverage – by putting clear rules on tourism, investing in greenery and the quality of urban spaces. And always keeping the theme of housing at the centre, with interventions on social housing, on rent contributions and on the recovery of public housing. There is still a lot to do to do, but we want to work for a Florence that leaves no one behind, that takes care of people and knows how to combine beauty, rights and solidarity. The new year opens with important challenges ahead of us with seriousness and determination, with an eye that goes beyond the borders of the city, in a time in which the value of peace in the world can never be taken for granted.

In Piazza della Signoria the evening was animated by the Florentine comedian Lorenzo Baglioni, while the councilors for Economic Development Jacopo Vicini and for Sport Letizia Perini wished the citizens and tourists their best wishes.

In Piazza Santissima Annunziata those present danced to the spiritual, pop and rock notes of the Fiorentina Chamber Orchestra and with the choirs The Pilgrims and Light Gospel Choir. Also in the square was Education Councilor Benedetta Albanese to inaugurate 2026.

Finally, in Oltrarno, in Piazza del Carmine it was a New Year’s Eve event dedicated to jazz with the Nico Gori Young Lions and the trumpeter Fabrizio Bosso. Labor councilor Dario Danti wished him a happy new year.
