But in addition to controversy, there is also transparency: the “salary” of the heir to the throne has been made known. Sums that will be used to finance official and private expenses. Beyond charity and the needs of his family
At the beginning of November 2025, the Princes of Wales with their children moved to Forest Lodge. While the family seems to be comfortable in their new home, the “neighbors” seem much less satisfied. In fact, the arrival of the royal couple led to a strengthening of security measures around the new residence.
According to the Mail on Sunday, a ten kilometer security perimeter has been established around the property, blocking access to some roads. «We have lived here for twenty years and now we are devastated. We feel trapped,” said a villager. The family’s move has already raised discontent among locals.
Since the coronation of his father, King Charles III, in September 2022, Prince William has inherited the Duchy of Cornwall. This title allowed him to earn a very high income. In a report published in June 2025, it was stated that the Duchy of Cornwall generated a surplus of £22.9 million, equivalent to around €26 million. An impressive sum, but which does not exceed the income of the heir to the throne for the previous year. Between 2023 and 2024, Prince William earned almost 23.6 million pounds, or over 28 million euros.
But what explains such an income? The Duchy of Cornwall, founded in 1337 by Edward III, provides funds to the heir to the throne. It includes several properties, both residential and commercial, such as the Cradley Estate in Hereford, the Highgrove House estate and the Oval cricket ground. As a member of the royal family, Prince William does not receive a salary in the traditional sense. The £22.9 million will be used to fund the official, private and charitable expenses of the Prince of Wales and his family.
