Not just New Year’s Eve. Tourists will also stay in Rome for the cultural events scheduled on New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026. This year too, in fact, the Municipality has organized “Roma Capodarte”, over one hundred events – almost all free – spread throughout the city. Among those returning at dawn from the celebrations and those moving to visit the beauties of the Capital, thousands will use buses, metro and trams.
Metro timetables in Rome
As regards local public transport, the timetables as recalled by Roma Servizi per la Mobilità will be holiday times, foreseen in the plan for the Christmas holidays. We remind you that the subways will remain in service until 2.30 am on January 1st, and will then resume service starting from 8 am and according to holiday timetables.
The bus lines are active until 2.30am on January 1st
Several lines will also operate until the early hours of the morning: lines H Termini-via dei Capasso, 2 piazzale Flaminio-piazza Mancini (tram line, but bus service for New Year’s Eve), 128 Baldelli/metro B-Crocco, 170 Termini-Eur/piazzale dell’Agricoltura, 200 Prima Porta station-piazza Mancini, 280 Ostiense station-piazza Mancini, 301 Grottarossa-viale Giulio Cesare/Lepanto/metro A, 336 Quarrata-Val d’Ala Fs station, 544 Parco di Centocelle/metro C-Sant’Agnese station-Annibaliano/metro B1, 766 via Millevoi-Trastevere station, 881 Avanzini-via Paola and 905 Malagrotta-Cornelia ring road/metro A will remain on the street until 2.30 am, to facilitate exchanges with the central area and with the metro.
Night lines extended until 8am
Furthermore, to give continuity to the service, the night bus lines nMA, nMB, nMB1, nMC and nME will be on the road until 8am on January 1st (starting from 2.30am). The latter follows the route of the Metromare from Piazza Venezia to Lido Centro station and between Piramide and Lido Centro.
What time does the service start on New Year’s Eve
As regards public transport, Atac announces that the service on the entire network begins at 8am on New Year’s Eve and continues according to the holiday schedule. The buses of the operators Autoservizi Troiani, Autoservizi Tuscia, Atr also follow the same timetables as the Atac network.
Regarding the Atac ticket offices on holiday days, New Year’s Day, opening at 10.40am and closing at 8pm.
Rome-Viterbo and Metromare timetables
As regards the regional transport managed by Cotral, on 1 January the start of the service on the Rome-Viterbo route is postponed to 7.28 from Flaminio and to 8.03 from Montebello. Furthermore, until January 6th, the supplementary bus service between weekdays is suspended between 9.30am and 2.00pm, but a bus remains active and ready to be activated if necessary. The Metromare will see the start of service postponed to 7.49am from both terminals.
Reduced taxi fleet
For those wishing to use taxis, pay attention to rest stops. In fact, since September 29th, the shifts for the holidays have been established with a specific determination: the taxi fleet has been divided into three groups which will stop at different periods. On average, therefore, a reduction of around 30% – 35% of the capital’s white cars is expected.
In detail, licenses from 1 to 2,882 (plus disabled licenses from 1 to 66) are those scheduled for rest in the period that began on 27 December and will end on 1 January 2026.
The ZTL
An extraordinary activation of the central ZTL (Centre and Tridente) is planned for New Year’s Eve, which will remain active continuously from 6.30am on 31 December throughout the day of 1 January, continuing until 6.00pm for the Centro ZTL and until 8.00pm for the Tridente ZTL.
