Giro d’Italia, the Voghera stage will cost the Municipality 200 thousand euros

Alessandro Desperati / voghera

The departure of the May 24th stage of the Giro d’Italia from Voghera will cost (approximately) 200 thousand euros. The figure emerged (informally) in the municipal council where the budget was approved with the opposition on the barricades because the amount to finance the passage of the pink race to Voghera has not yet been included among the figures of the municipal “financial budget”.

opposition to the attack

«A budget devoid of ideas and above all which does not provide funds to host the start of the stage of the Giro d’Italia, spent around 200 thousand euros, scheduled for May – attacks Nicola Affroti of the UDC -. There is a lack of funding for the Giro d’Italia and we wonder where the Garlaschelli council will go to recover those funds for an event that will take place the week before the elections and which represents a nice electoral ticket. It is not clear how the passage of the Giro will be financed, but there are not enough funds for social issues either. It is the balance sheet of a majority that in the last five years has not been able to achieve any concrete objectives and with a dead city.” Ilaria Balduzzi, former PD, now mixed group, echoes him: «It’s an openly electoral budget. Done for 6 months but even forgetting to include the Giro d’Italia and the funding to make it happen despite it being so widely advertised. The last council meeting was the opportunity to give report cards to the mayor, the council and the silent majority: seriously insufficient because the narrative they give appears totally disconnected from the reality of the city. Good communicators, ribbon cuttings mainly for other people’s initiatives, and superficial presenteeism are not enough. We need to stay within the city’s problems: waiting lists and hospital staff in healthcare, dying trade if not for the enthusiasm of a few, safety on the roads and more generally in the city, waste both on the collection side and on the tariff side with unrealizable promises of punctual tariffs, zero chapters on young people and families, associations, twinning, tourism, industrial, agriculture, research and innovation, labor market, training and support for employment, biodiversity. In short – concludes Balduzzi – a budget and a dup, like all the others, without vision and prospects which manages, with difficulty, the current situation”. Pier Ezio Ghezzi of the Civici is also harsh: «The Council has approved the latest budget and plan of the centre-right’s works. Obviously we voted against. The people of Voghera must ask themselves a question: has the city improved or worsened in these five years? —
