One Year Ago… Italian Regions Cup 2025, the calendar will consist of 21 tests

After the “experimental” edition of 2024, the Italian Regions Cup is heading into its first full season. There Professional Cycling League has in fact confirmed the preparation of the 2025 calendar of the competition, which will include a large part of the professional races included in the competitive agenda of the International Cycling Union which will take place on Italian roads. The body chaired by Roberto Pella will benefit from an allocation of 7 million euros over the next three years, foreseen in the Economic Budget, just approved by the branches of Parliament.

“The Budget Commission, of which I am a member, examined the amendments – Pella’s words – The Chamber of Deputies approved the economic maneuver and the Senate completed the legislative process by definitively approving the text at second reading. An important step which confirms the validity of a long-term project, in line with the program of this board and thus financed by the State”.

In detail, the contribution arriving from Rome, which had already been discussed in recent days, will be divided into two million euros for 2025 and 2.5 million euros for 2026 and 2027. “These funds will be allocated to the valorisation of the Italian territory and its regions through the support of professional cycling races at a national level on the road, included in the calendar of the Professional Cycling League”, reads the note released by the LCP.

Calendar which, according to what the LCP anticipates, will be made up of 21 races, “equal to the number of Italian regions” (which are actually 20, at least according to national law). There should therefore be room for all the races in the 2025 UCI calendar, with the exception of the Giro d’Italia, the WorldTour level competitions and the national championship trials. The 2025 Italian Regions Cup will be characterized by specialty rankings (individual, youth, climbers, combativeness and team), as happened, on a smaller scale, in 2024.
