Abuse as a child
She recalls a trauma from her youth: as a child she was a victim of abuse. She says that this story was also partly taken up in the film “The Holidaymakers”: «I think I elaborated it, first of all because I didn’t experience it alone, I was with my friend Silvia and we had the same experience together, one after the other, with the same person and then we talked about it together. And we laughed, perhaps that’s what makes me say that laughter is medicine.” Talk about the importance of sharing, especially in such painful facts. “I think my life went as a result of that episode,” he concludes.
His films that offended his sister Carla Bruni
Also during an interview with Belve, Francesca Fagnani also discussed the relationship between her cinema and her family with Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, recalling the words of her sister Carla Bruni. The former model and singer, a guest on the program in the past, had expressed her disappointment at the numerous films inspired by their family. Bruni Tedeschi admitted that he had «hurt people by making my films, and this is something that I really, deeply regret. My brother is no longer here, but it’s something I feel… not guilty about, but I’m sorry. But I know that to do my job I need reality and then I need to be able to do what I want with it, otherwise I can’t do my job.” Fagnani asked if he was aware that his stories could hurt his loved ones. «Sometimes yes, and I did it anyway», admitted Bruni Tedeschi. «I imagined that they would be able to recognize each other and, despite this, for the need for a scene I overcame the displeasure of the others. This is part of our job.”
Superstitions and anxiety
Bruni Tedeschi, known for her charm and irony, is linked to some of her superstitions, in particular numbers and the choice of steps to take. Furthermore, to combat anxiety, he sometimes alternates reading Thich Nhat Hanh’s teachings with taking an anxiolytic. «I’ll take both! I read a few pages of his books with a little anxiety. It’s ideal,” he said.
