Wizz Air does not stop its run in Italy and, after a record year that has seen almost 21 million passengers choose your flights, announces further news for the summer season 2026: the opening of the Rome Fiumicino – Chania route. The introduction of this wonderful tourist destination within the network confirms the centrality of the Roman airport in the carrier’s growth strategy, consolidating it as the main base of the company in the country.
The details of the route
The new flight to the island of Crete will be operational twice a week, every Monday and Friday, and the first flight is scheduled next June 29, 2026. However, starting today, December 23, travelers will be able to book their seats towards the Aegean Sea via the official website wizzair.com or the company’s official app, with rates starting from €45.99. The route will be operated with one of 30 aircraft Airbus A321neoknown for guaranteeing passengers maximum comfort and the best possible travel experience.

After the recent announcements of the new aircraft based at Fiumicino airport – the 15th at the Rome base – and the new routes – including Malta, Rhodes, Kefalonia, Tallinn – the company continues to expand, demonstrating the central position of the airport in its Italian network. In the Capitoline base, Wizz Air has over 570 direct employees and a network of 72 routes serving 29 countries.

The numbers of the Company
Operational performance continues to improve, with the on-time departure rate increasing by 17,1% and a completion rate of 99,8%. Since the start of operations, Wizz Air has transported over 26.9 million passengers to and from Rome and this year alone the airline offers more than 7.5 million seats in the Italian capital (+2.0% compared to 2024).
Thanks to continuous investments in the capital’s airport, Wizz Air has already operated over 31,000 flights to and from Fiumicino this year, transporting more than 6.6 million passengers (+4.8% compared to last year).
