Stellantis Cassino, horror start in 2026

The factory Stellantis Cassino he seems to have no peace. After a truly difficult 2025 with continuous production stops and the factory recording the lowest numbers in recent years, 2026 also seems to start in the same way. In fact, in the last few hours the first stop of the year under the banner of layoffs was announced. The first stop announced this morning will go from January 2nd until January 16th. Practically the beginning of this year for the Piedimonte San Germano production site seems worse than the end of 2025. A bad sign for a year that has already begun but which at a production level for the Ciociaria factory does not promise anything good.

Horror start for the Stellantis Cassino plant in 2026, production stops immediately

In fact, in the absence of new models that will not arrive before the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028, next year will be really hard for the factory and its employees and this first stop probably anticipates what could happen in the rest of the year. The company communication is clear and unequivocal: the Christmas break, initially scheduled until January 2nd, will be extended with a production stop that will extend until to January 16, 2026. The bodywork, painting and assembly departments will remain closed, and workers will go directly from holidays to the Solidarity Contract (CDS), creating a situation of great tension for thousands of families at the beginning of the year. This confirms that the difficulties are no longer temporary, but rooted in the structure of the company.

According to union data, there is now open talk of a “planned decline”. The balance sheet for 2025 is disappointing: production did not exceed the 18,000 cars, a symbolic threshold that would have indicated a minimum of stability. Looking to 2026, the outlook for the models Alfa Romeo are even more worrying: estimates predict a significant drop, with production unlikely to exceed it the 13,000 units, fueling real fears about the future of the brand.

The current numbers put at risk the very survival of a territory that has built its social fabric on the automotive industry. Without new models and without full use of the systems, the Cassino plant risks turning into an empty shell, fueled only by declarations and announcements without concrete plans. Unfortunately for them new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio we will still have to wait a long time. There is talk of a presentation in 2027 but production is unlikely to start before 2028. Even worse is the situation of the other new model arriving which perhaps will be branded Maserati.

“Added to this crisis is the unacceptable use of commercials and phantom plans for reconversion,” he harshly denounces D’Avino of UILM. The union, which on 31 December 2024 had symbolically manned the gates together with the General Secretary Rocco Palombella, reiterates that it will not tolerate further passing the buck between Stellantis and related companies, such as Trasnova, Teknoservice and Logitech.

The criticism also extends to Europe, called to make courageous decisions, and to Stellantis, accused of a total lack of transparency. The four month extension obtained for the Trasnova dispute is considered an insufficient remedy, in the absence of a long-term strategy. The request is clear: immediately start a discussion to obtain concrete guarantees on the restart and strengthened economic protection for those who find themselves forced away from the production line at the beginning of 2026.
