The fourth edition of the Campiello Junior Awardthe literary recognition born from the collaboration between the Campiello Foundation, Pirelli and the Pirelli Foundationfor Italian works of fiction, poetry and theatrical texts written for children. The event, as stated in the presentation, aims to encourage reading and contribute to the diffusion of the book among the very young.

And now we come to the news of the 2024 edition: this year they are entering the selection jury Emma Beseghi e Lea Martina Strong Grazzini. The president was confirmed, Boero Pineformer full professor of Children’s Literature and Reading Pedagogy, and the jurors Chiara Laganiactress and playwright, and Michela Possamaiprofessor at the IUSVE University of Venice, former member of the Technical Committee of Campiello Giovani.

The press release also explains that “Fondazione Il Campiello, Pirelli and the Pirelli Foundation greet and thank David Tolina judge in the first three editions”.

THE TWO NEW JURORS

Beseghi, already Full Professor of Children’s Literature at the University of Bolognashe also taught Pedagogy of narration and History of children’s imagination. She was the coordinator of the Doctorate in Pedagogical Sciences until 2016 and the founder of the Children’s Literature Research Center (CRLI), where she is currently a member of the scientific board. Author of numerous publications, she is part of the scientific committee of the journal History of Education & Children’s LiteratureOf RPD-Journal of Theories and Researches in EducationOf RSE-Journal of History of Education and co-director of the series Bagheera (ARE YOU). Curate the rubric Peter’s Chair for the magazine Liber-Books for children and teenagersShe was president of the Italian section of Ibby from 2006 to 2013 and member of the scientific committee of Strega Ragazzi Award until 2018. She is currently a member of the jury of the Carla Poesio Award for Bologna Children’s Book Fair.

Forti Grazzini, graduated in Art History, has been collaborating with Rai for many yearsboth in radio programs for Radio Rai Treboth on television, where she was the author and scriptwriter of children’s programs such as The Blue Tree, Trabzon, Melevision, Clay, Diary home e Sock. For Disney Channel, together with Lorenza Cingoli, he wrote the film Berni and the young pharaoha fantasy story set in the Egyptian Museum of Turin. He has published over twenty children’s travel guides, short stories, nursery rhymes and novels.. Since March 2023 she has been the author of the series Codytrip Guides published by School Joints. For Disney/Giunti he created the series I Mitini. Among his recent works are Raphael and the Shining Scorpion, James and the Giant’s Gaze (Lapis), The most beautiful stories of the Iliad, The most beautiful stories of the Odyssey, The most beautiful stories of Virgil’s Aeneid, The most beautiful stories of Marco Polo’s The Million e Stories of Ancient and Modern Heroines (Gribaudo).

THE JUNIOR CAMPIELLO PRIZE

The Campiello Junior Award is made up of two distinct sections: the 7-10 year categoryaimed at primary school readers of classes III, IV, V and the category 11-14 years, aimed instead at lower secondary schools, class I, II, III. The selection procedure is composed, as for the senior competition, of a double jury. The selection jury will be responsible for selecting the finalist triplets who will be announced in December 2024, while the readers’ jurycomposed by 240 girls and boys divided into groups of 120 for each category, will decree the winners.

These young people – the award press release underlines – will be called to choose the winners, who will be awarded a cash prize of 2000 eurosThe proclamation is expected to April 2025 while the celebration will take place in September during the Campiello 2025 Award Ceremony. Pirelli, with its Foundation and the Campiello Prize, will give the young people who will be part of the jury and all young reading enthusiasts the opportunity to participate in a series of initiatives dedicated to the world of books and publishing for children, in which the authors of the finalist books will also participate.
