Starting from 4 April 2024in the context of BOOM! Growing up in booksthe children’s book and illustration festival organized on the occasion of Bologna Children’s Book FairL’Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna promotes the program ABABO BOOM!.

ABABO BOOM! includes a cycle of four meetings and three exhibitions set up in the spaces of the Baraccano Complex, the “Luigi Cattaneo” Anatomical Wax Collection and the Alliance Française of Bologna / Institute of German Culture. From 8 to 11 April 2024Furthermore, the Bologna Academy will be present at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair (Hall 30, stand B52-C41), showcasing the books published by students and a selection of the most deserving theses: an irreplaceable opportunity to explore the international market and start the first professional contacts. ABABO BOOM! in fact, it fits into the celebrations for the twentieth anniversary of the Comics and illustration course of theAcademy of Fine Arts of Bolognathe first institute in the AFAM system to activate a three-year study and research program dedicated to “narration through images”.

The cycle of four meetingshosted in the Aula Magna of the Academy, part Monday 8 April at 10.30am with an event dedicated to Oliver Jeffers, one of the most sought after and appreciated children’s illustrators in the world. The meeting, introduced by Enrico Fornaroli, is organized in collaboration with ZOOlibri and HarperCollins Children’s Books. Tuesday 9 April at 11amwill be held Storms, magical rites and pumpkin soups with the participation of Ariane Huguesborn in 1993, illustrator and author of comics and stories for children and adolescence for the most interesting French publishing companies, and Giulia Mirandola, expert in visual education and cultural planning. The meeting is organized by Canicola and sponsored by Institut Français Italia. We continue Wednesday 10 April at 10.30am with Of holes and girlsmeeting dedicated to Emma AdBåge, Swedish writer and illustrator of children’s books. Moderated by Ilaria Tontardinithe event is co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe program for the project Reading Diversity and created in collaboration with Camelozampa. The cycle ends Friday 12 April at 11am with the meeting La terre tourne: Anne Brouillard dedicated to the award-winning Belgian illustrator and author, moderated by Giordana Piccinini and Emilio Varrà, in collaboration with orecchio acerbo, Babalibri, Pastel-l’École des loisirs, Éditions Esperluète, WBI and in partnership with Gruppo Hera. All meetings are free entry, subject to availability without reservation.

Thursday 4 April at 5pm, Baraccano complex (Sala G. Cavazza, via S. Stefano 119), opens to the public Experienced garden / imagined garden. Environmental History at the Savioli Garden, exhibition of the Biennium of Illustration for Publishing of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, curated by Sara Colaone and Francesca Vaccari, in collaboration with the environmental education laboratories Giardino Savioli – Casa di Quartiere Stella, Fondazione Pietro Giacomo Rusconi – Villa Ghigi – for Urban Innovation, Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and Santo Stefano District. The exhibition offers a visual journey into the creation of A garden, many stories,illustrated book that interprets the peculiar characteristics of the Savioli Garden and was born from the Environmental History Workshops aimed at primary schools: a historical and naturalistic journey in the urban green area of ​​the Savioli garden as the nodal point of an enlightened urban vision that keeps together the attention to environment with social conscience. The exhibition continues until 17 April 2024, with the following times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 1.30pm, Tuesday and Thursday from 8am to 5pm (free admission).

Between fiction and historical reality, the students of the Academy of Fine Arts together with exceptional guests tell with images how the post-mortem donation to science works. The exhibition, created in collaboration with the University Museum System, the Department of Biomedical and Neuromotor Sciences and the Department of Sociology and Economic Law of the University of Bologna, the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna, the Monte di Bologna and Ravenna Foundation and Tunué Edizioni , continues until 14 June 2024, with the following times: until 31 May from Tuesday to Friday, from 9am to 1pm; from 1 June to 14 June from Tuesday to Friday, from 10am to 1pm (free admission).

The appointment with the exhibition featuring female students from prestigious international art schools, coordinated by the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna and hosted at the headquarters of theAlliance Française and dell‘Institute of German Culture of Bologna (via de’ Marchi, 4). The theme chosen for the 2024 edition is Pathfinder. Finding new paths where none have tread before and includes illustrations by students of: Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna, Cambridge School of Art, École Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine (Épinal), Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften (Hamburg), Kyoto City University of Arts, La Massana Arts & Design School (Barcelona). The exhibition inaugurates Tuesday 9 April at 6pm and continues until May 10th at the following times: from Monday to Friday, from 10am to 1pm and from 3pm to 7pm (free admission, www.afbologna.it). On the occasion of the inauguration, at 6.30 pm, the reopening of the Alliance Française Children’s Library is scheduled with Vanna Vinci at the ribbon cutting.

Finally, until September 15th, the Doll Museum of Bologna hosts Child Sauvagecurated by Gabriele Lamberti and Marco Tosa, exhibition of Elisa Pedrettigraduated from the Illustration course of the Academy of Fine Arts, dedicated to the representation of the “child as a stranger” according to the theories of the scholar Dieter Richter.

ABABO BOOM! is part of the sixth edition of BOOM! Growing up in books, the festival of children’s books and illustrations, promoted by the Municipality of Bologna and BolognaFiere, organized by the Libraries and Cultural Welfare Sector | Municipality of Bologna and Hamelin, as part of the Bologna Reading Pact and on the occasion of the 61st edition of the Bologna Children’s Book Fair.
