Second defeat for Venezia in the last three championship matches: the ace Wiltjer is not enough to bring home a success
Too many errors to land the coup. Umana Reyer was defeated in the big match against Germani Brescia 104-93 and suffers the second defeat in the last three championship games. A heavy knockout for the Orogranata team for whom another monumental performance wasn’t enough Wiltjer to bring home a success that would have consolidated the position in the upper areas of the rankings. Venice presents itself for the thirteenth matchday without Parks and with the desire to confirm themselves even against a big team like Brescia.
Reyer dunk
The start of the Orogranata team is positive, but after the initial 2-7 on the pitch you can only see Germani doing everything very well. Venice, on the other hand, is unable to find good offensive solutions and between the two quarters receives the first of the two Lombard breaks which leads to 28-18. Reyer plays one of the worse quarters in terms of intensity and competitiveness, crushed possession after possession by the strength of a Germani who makes practically nothing mistakes and scores with 60 percent from the field. On the other hand, however, Venezia never scores from the arc and sinks at 51-31, before the leap of pride that allows them thanks to Wheatle e Cole to mend the gap a bit with the mini partial that leads to the long interval at 54-42.
The match offers the best in the third quarter where he takes the field Wiltjer: the Canadian carries the whole of Venice on his shoulders and practically alone goes on to make the comeback that changes the face of the race. From three, from inside the area and on the rebound, the 33 orogranata becomes unstoppable for Brescia’s defense which sees the 21 point lead crumble possession after possession, saved only by the siren at the end of the quarter at 75-73.
Brescia closes the accounts
Expecting a last quarter of passion, however, one is left disappointed, because Brescia resumes the match in 110 seconds and closes the score: just two minutes of general blackout with Ivanovic, Rivers e Bilan to massacre the orogranata basket and score a 10-0 which counts as a knockout blow on Reyer’s face. Brescia wins with merit, Venezia must find continuity of performance and the efficiency of some players, especially Americans, which it cannot ignore. Also because Treviso arrives at Taliercio on Sunday, for a derby that will have a high coefficient of tension.
