Thousands without electricity in France, Blackout also in Bergamo and in various areas of Florence. The cause is the exceptional heat wave that is affecting Europe and which causes electricity problem. But what relationship is there between the great heat and the blackouts?
Overheating and interventions
Meanwhile, the intensive use of air conditioners or fans that overheats the cables has to do with it: this overheating is combined with the abnormal temperature of the asphalt. The cables that pass under the streets cannot disperse heat, break and must be replaced: to carry out the intervention you need at least an hour but it can be complicated to identify the point where the cable broke.
According to a study published on Earth and Envomental Science and mentioned by Geopop, the extreme weather conditions became the first cause of Blackout: in the United States the percentage of interruptions of the electrical network linked to the weather conditions exceeded 73% in 2020.
