Riccione – Jude Law interpreta Vladimir Putin. Among the most expected of the list 01 Distribution, presented at the Professional Days in Riccione, is the new film by Olivier Assayastaken from the novel The wizard of the Kremlin by Giuliano da Empoli. It is an ambitious political thriller – The wizard of the Kremlin – Which, in fact, sees Jude Law embody the Russian leader. An operation expected in the cinema, but also to the passage, with the possibility of controversy. The script is signed by Assayas himself (“With Giuliano da Empoli we became friends, the director told the Biografilm Festival last year) together with Emmanuel Carrère.
The story follows Putin’s ascent in the 90s and early two thousand, testified through the gaze of Vadim Baraov, a character inspired by Vladislav Surkov, who is played by Paul Dano: it is a television producer who becomes the image of Putin’s image, as soon as he became the umpteenth unknown prime minister Boris Eltsin, ending up in love with the magnetic Ksenia. Jude Law, in a role defined by himself “an Everest to be scaled”, was photographed on the set in Riga, a location chosen for his architectural similarity with post-Soviet fly.
In the cast there are also Alicia Vikander, Zach Galifianakis, Tom Sturridge e Jeffrey Wright. The photograph is entrusted to Yorick Le Saux, while the assembly is curated by Marion Monnier. The tone of the film will not be that of the classic biopic: Assayas prefers a more filtered, psychological narrative, which avoids didacticism to tell the power through those who manipulate it.
