Tennis: towards Australian Open, Sinner trains with Wawrinka – Tennis
Jannik Sinner’s training level rises towards the Australian Open. After the first approach to the Melbourne Park courts together with Cruz Hewitt, son of the former n. 1 in the world Lleyton, the Italian trained on the Rod Laver Arena with Stan Wawrinka, champion in Melbourne in 2014. From champion to champion, a session between two players who know each other well and who have faced each other six times on the major circuit. “Thank you Stan, it’s always a pleasure to share the pitch with you” wrote Sinner coach Darren Cahill on Instagram, who posted a photo of the two players.
An intense week of training, matches and appointments will now begin for Sinner: the South Tyrolean will return to the pitch tomorrow at 6am Italian time for training with Frances Tiafoe. As part of the AO Opening Week, the series of side events and exhibition matches that act as an appetizer to the tournament, Sinner will take the field on the morning of January 7 (at 6 am) against Alexei Popyrin (n. 24 ATP). On Thursday at 5.30 am Italian time there will be the draw for the main draw in the presence of the Italian and Aryna Sabalenka – reigning champions of the tournament – while on Friday at 9 am Jannik will play the second exhibition, this time with Stefanos Tsitsipas.
